Tracking Trash seen as excellent Common Core selection

In two recent articles, Tracking Trash: Flotsam, Jetsam, and the Science of Ocean Motion by Loree Griffin Burns was cited as an appropriate selection for educators implementing the new Common Core (CC) standards.

In this article from School Library Journal, the multi-layered topics in Tracking Trash are cited, as well as the abundant maps, diagrams, and photos. The entry ends with a note that, “Other entries in the excellent “Scientists in the Field” series also lend themselves to use with Common Core.”

Well-known children’s book reviewer and presenter, Kathleen Odean, has started a CC blog, and also cites Tracking Trash as an appropriate Common Core title here. Her blog is an excellent jumping off point for understanding, and utilizing, nonfiction books with regards to CC as educators and librarians attempt to integrate the CC standards into everyday use.
